Behavioural Objectives:


By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:


1. Identify simple sewing tools.



2. State the uses of each sewing tool.



3. Describe how to care for sewing tools.



4. Explain why it is important to keep tools clean and safe.


Instructional Materials:


  • Samples of scissors, needles, thread, thimble, tape rule, pin cushion, and pressing iron.


  • Chart showing different sewing tools.


  • A small sewing box or basket.

                           Introduction

Before a tailor sews a fine dress, before the needle touches the fabric — tools come to life! ✂️

Without them, a tailor is like a farmer without a hoe. Sewing tools are the unseen heroes behind every neat stitch and beautiful clothing. Learning how to use and care for them makes every pupil a skilful and responsible young designer.


               Meaning of Sewing Tools:


Sewing tools are instruments used in sewing to make clothes, repair torn fabrics, and design creative wear.



    Examples of Simple Sewing Tools and Their      Uses:


1. Needle: For stitching fabrics together.



2. Thread: Used with a needle to sew.



3. Scissors: For cutting fabric or thread.



4. Tape Rule: For measuring body parts or fabric.



5. Thimble: Protects fingers while sewing.



6. Pins and Pin Cushion: For holding fabric pieces in place.



7. Pressing Iron: For straightening fabric and seams.



8. Sewing Box: For keeping all tools in one place.


                   Care of Sewing Tools:


1. Keep needles and pins in a pin cushion.



2. Clean scissors after use and store in a dry place.



3. Keep threads away from dust and moisture.



4. Wipe pressing iron after use and unplug it safely.



5. Arrange tools neatly in a sewing box.


      Importance of Caring for Sewing Tools:


  • Makes tools last longer.


  • Prevents injury or rust.


  • Keeps the sewing area tidy.


  • Ensures smooth and neat sewing.

  • When tools are properly cared for, they serve us well. A careful tailor is not just a good designer but also a disciplined one.

  • Draw any four sewing tools and write one use of each.
